This example shows how WinLoG applies automated QA/QC to an oil and gas exploration well. OG-01 OIL-GAS-QAQC combines lithology and formation tops with total gas, methane, rate of penetration, gamma ray, hydrocarbon shows, oil staining and drilling remarks over a 3,000 ft well.
The data deliberately includes a misaligned formation top, duplicate hydrocarbon-show records, moderate oil staining without a nearby show, and a moderate or strong show without nearby staining. Each finding is linked to the affected dataset, depth, actual value and expected condition.
The example contains deliberate formation, show and staining data-quality conditions rather than only idealized data. The Dolomite Reservoir top is recorded at 2,220 ft, 20 ft below its lithologic boundary. Duplicate hydrocarbon shows are recorded at 2,350 ft, medium staining at 1,700 ft has no nearby show, and the strong show at 1,250 ft has no nearby staining observation.
The validation report contains 4 warnings and no errors. The log reports 100% completeness, demonstrating that a record can be complete while still containing conditions requiring technical review.
