From validation status to documented review

The demonstration follows a geotechnical investigation log containing intentional data-quality issues. It shows how the Validation Status panel summarizes the review and how depth-linked findings support investigation, correction and revalidation.

Opening. Reliable subsurface decisions begin with reliable data. WinLoG’s integrated QA/QC tools help identify incomplete, inconsistent, and potentially invalid borehole information before the data is issued, exchanged, or added to a database.

The QA/QC example. This demonstration uses BH-02 GEO-QAQC, a geotechnical investigation log containing several intentional data-quality issues. The log combines lithology descriptions, samples, SPT results, recovery, soil classifications, and laboratory measurements in a single presentation. At first glance, the log appears reasonable. WinLoG’s QA/QC review looks beyond appearance and checks the relationships within the underlying data.

The workspace. The QA/QC workspace keeps the log and its validation information together. The Validation Status panel provides the high-level assessment. The Validation Results tree organizes findings by severity, while the Data tree provides direct access to depth, water, lithology, samples, recovery, classifications, and test results.

Findings in context. Findings can appear beside the affected depth on the rendered log. This depth-based presentation helps the reviewer understand each finding in its geological and testing context.

Severity. Errors identify conditions that normally require correction before the log can pass validation. Warnings identify unusual or inconsistent conditions that require professional review. Informational messages draw attention to useful observations without automatically preventing acceptance.

Investigate and correct. A validation result identifies the affected data type, adjacent depths, actual value, and expected value. After the original field information is checked, the data can be corrected and validation run again. The summary then updates immediately.

Professional judgment. Not every unusual result is an error. QA/QC directs attention to a condition; the qualified reviewer decides whether the data should be corrected, accepted, or documented.

Completeness and confidence. Completeness indicates how much expected information is present, while the confidence score reflects the overall strength of the validated data. The lifecycle state shows whether a log is ready for its next stage.

Document the review. WinLoG can produce a validation report that documents the QA/QC assessment and its findings. It can support internal checking, accompany a deliverable, or provide evidence that the log has undergone a structured review.

Closing. WinLoG QA/QC helps teams find data problems earlier, review borehole logs more consistently, and deliver subsurface information with greater confidence.
