Groundwater Vistas & MODFLOW
Remote Model Launch |
RMLServer was developed to
improve the multi-tasking capabilities of groundwater Vistas and enable
ESI’s Windows-based models to be run on remote computers.
Remote Model Launch
Summary
The product uses a combination of Windows NT service and a model server to
provide this new capability. RMLServer uses an NT Service, which enables
models to be run on remote computers regardless of whether anyone has logged
onto them. The service is started automatically when the computer is turned
on.
Models run via the Remote Model Launch interface function as separate
Windows processes even if the model is run on the same computer as
Groundwater Vistas. This enables the operating system to make better use of
multiple processor computers. In addition, a greater level of response is
provided to the Groundwater Vistas user when models are running. As
implemented, each model opened up in Groundwater Vistas can be run
simultaneously. It enables the modeler to tap the power of many computers on
the network. These days, computers are much more powerful than the typical
user requires and having a model running in the background would not
significantly impact most users. Using this technology, you can improve your
productivity without purchasing a faster computer.

MT3DWin32 on other computers on your network
- Groundwater Vistas controls these remote
models from your compute
- Free up your computer for other tasks
- Allows parallel processing for Monte
Carlo simulation and automated sensitivity analysis
- Uses Microsoft’s DCOM technology

Remote Model Launch
Requirements
Remote Launch requires Windows
NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 or above, which includes Windows 2000 and XP. In order
to successfully run a model on the remote computer, you must have access to
the hard disk on the remote computer or on a server. In some cases there are
network security issues that must be addressed on the remote computer,
depending on how restrictive the default security is on the network. The
RMLServer license is administrated by either a Remote Launch security block
(dongle) or a Groundwater Vistas security block.
