Groundwater Vistas & MODFLOW

Input/Editing Options

  • Property Sheets

In previous versions of Groundwater Vistas, there were extensive menus for each model on the model menu. The MODFLOW menu was particularly large. We have now compressed the many options available for each model into a tab dialog like the one shown opposite for MODFLOW. This makes it much easier and faster to explore and modify options for the various models.

  • Property Matrices

Groundwater Vistas has always used the zone database concept for all aquifer properties. This works well for hydraulic conductivity, which usually has relatively few zones. It does not work as well for highly variable properties like layer elevations. You now have a choice of making any property a matrix. When you do this, you will not be working with zones at all and you can edit the property data in a spreadsheet like the one shown below.

You can perform a lot of editing operations in the spreadsheet and you can cut/paste from Excel or other spreadsheets.

  • Digitize to Delete Boundary Conditions

A new feature has been added to the BCs/Delete menu. You can now digitize a polygon surrounding a group of cells and delete them.

  • New Spreadsheets

We have added spreadsheets to many dialogs in GV which used to use a 'Next' and 'Previous' button. These include editing Pest, UCODE, and MODFLOW2000 parameter lists, Pest Group settings, MODFLOW-SURFACT ATO options for each stress period, etc. There is also a spreadsheet that allows you to look at model results for each cell in the model.

  • New Aquifer Properties

We have added Unsaturated Zone and Initial Head properties to the Props menu in GV. The Unsaturated Zone properties are for use with MODFLOW-SURFACT and include three Van Genuchten and one Brooks-Corey parameter. Initial Heads can be used as starting heads for MODFLOW and allows you to customize the starting head array. This is especially easy now using the new matrix property type.

  • Well Options

You can now turn on display of all well names (including font control) for analytic wells.

  • New Matrix Editor Options

We added the ability to look at actual recharge and ET rates computed by MODFLOW as well as mass balance error on a cell-by-cell basis.
